Judith Lanius spent many years as an art and
architectural historian in the nation’s capital, before returning to
photography. Largely self-taught,
she studied with several Washington photographers. She has the trained eye of
an art and architectural historian, which enables her to successfully combine
her professional background with her experiences of traveling abroad and living
in many different cultures.
She is an inveterate traveler from childhood, and the appeal of other countries’ cultures is a theme that runs through her photographic work. She is drawn to the less visited areas of the world, a small corner in southern Morocco. Creating fine art photography books is central to her vision. Her most recent publication Encountering the Journey is a beautiful book of portraits captured in moments of connection with the people living in Northeast India.
